“Galileo”: Raúl Esparza, Joy Woods and Jeremy Kushnier sing three songs from the new Broadway musical atop Edge NYC
High above New York, on September 24, Raúl Esparza, Joy Woods, Jeremy Kushnier and the Broadway cast of the new musical “Galileo” offered a first taste of the show: three songs from the score by Michael Weiner and Zoe Sarnak, sung on the glass-floored Edge NYC observation deck — 100 floors above Hudson Yards.
Esparza, who will play the legendary astronomer in the title role, sang his solo “Heaven’s Changing,” while Woods performed “Limited Life”; Kushnier led the full-company number.
Previews of “Galileo” begin November 10 at Broadway’s Shubert Theatre, with the official opening on December 6. Esparza and Kushnier return to their roles from the world-premiere production at Berkeley Rep, where the musical was first presented.
The musical — with a book by Emmy winner Danny Strong and music and lyrics by Weiner and Sarnak — centers on the historic scientist Galileo Galilei, the pioneering astronomer widely regarded as the father of modern science, classical physics, the scientific method and observational astronomy.
The Broadway cast also includes Bradley Dean (Chess, The Phantom of the Opera), Jordon Lee Garcia and Javier Muñoz (Hamilton, In the Heights); Grammy winner Michael Park will alternate with Esparza in select performances. Directed by Michael Mayer, with choreography by David Neumann, the producers are Amanda Lipitz, Henry Tisch and Jordan Roth.
