GAZA – 11 Killed and Dozens of Children Trapped Under Rubble After Building Collapse
GAZA, September 16 /ATSH-ANSA/ – At least 11 people have lost their lives after a building collapsed in Gaza, while authorities and rescue teams have reported that at least 50 children are trapped under the rubble.
Five minors have already been pulled from the rubble lifeless.
Search-and-rescue operations continue, with teams trying to find other trapped people.
The building had previously been damaged by Israeli bombardment and was being used as shelter by Palestinians displaced by the fighting.
At the moment of the collapse, around 100 displaced people were inside the building, making the number of those trapped under the rubble particularly alarming.
Rescue teams are working in difficult conditions due to extensive damage in the area and the lack of heavy equipment needed to remove the rubble.
The death toll may change as search operations continue.
Local authorities have not yet given a full account of the people who were in the building.
The event comes amid continued fighting in Gaza, where bombardments and the destruction of buildings have caused widespread displacement of the civilian population.
Emergency teams are trying to pull survivors from the rubble, while relatives await information on the fate of their loved ones.
