Gërvalla denies she went silent after the Specialist verdict: ‘We’ve gotten down to work — cool-headed and without much shouting, we are preparing for the next legal battle’

Justice Minister Donika Gërvalla has spoken about the accusations made against her that she sent files to the Specialist Court and that she remained silent after the verdict, the conviction of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.

Asked about this issue at a press conference, Gërvalla said she has not remained silent, but a statement on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo was issued by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while she and her team have gotten down to work in order to prepare for a legal battle at the next instance.

“The statements linking me to cooperation with the Specialist Court have already become stale because I have explained them several times. There is no link, neither with UNMIK, nor with EULEX, nor with the Specialist Court… there is no meeting point of mine, neither directly nor indirectly, but we should also have a little modesty because the verdict will come soon and we will see it very soon. I have a small hope that at least those who have shouted the most in this regard, those who have labeled me the most with all kinds of names, will at least blush in front of the mirror for a moment for not having wanted to hear the facts, but having chosen to repeat the lies put into circulation by themselves,” she said, as Telegrafi reports.

Minister Gërvalla denied the accusations that she had remained silent after the Specialist Court’s decision sentencing the four former KLA leaders to 81 years in prison.

“…I have not remained silent. I am the Minister of Justice, the Prime Minister has issued a statement on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, while I, together with my team, from the very first day have gotten down to work in order to prepare for a battle because the issue of the Specialist Court is a legal battle, it is not a battle of statements in the media.

As a legal battle, we must be professional, smart, cool-headed, without much shouting we must prepare for the next instance,” she said.

Further, the Justice Minister said she is convinced the Government can do more, but as she said, all circumstances must be analyzed and everyone must do their job properly and honestly.

“I am convinced we can do more, but we are analyzing all the circumstances so that everyone in their position, in their responsibility, does their job properly and honestly,” she said.
