Hamza on the presidency: PDK may adjust its positions — “We are in new circumstances”
The leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Bedri Hamza, has said that the political developments after September 16 have created new circumstances, on the basis of which the party may adjust its positions — including on the election of the president.
Hamza made the remarks after the meeting of the PDK Steering Council, where he was asked whether the party’s position on the presidential election could change in light of the situation created after the ruling of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
“We are in new circumstances. We are in new circumstances, we are in a new state, a state that has nothing to do only with the past, nothing to do with individuals — it has to do with the state and with the future of the state,” Hamza said.
He added that, on the basis of these circumstances, the PDK will adjust its positions on issues concerning the future and stability of the state.
“And on the basis of these new circumstances we naturally change and adjust our positions on issues that concern the future and the stability of the state,” he said.
Asked whether the PDK would support a presidential candidate from Vetëvendosje, Hamza said he did not want to speak about hypothetical scenarios without a concrete proposal.
“I cannot speak about hypotheticals before this topic comes up,” he said.
The PDK leader said he is ready to hold meetings with the leaders of political parties on matters of importance for the country. He confirmed that he has already met with the leader of Vetëvendosje, Albin Kurti, the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, and the leader of the AAK, Ardian Gjini.
“I have met and I am ready to meet — I have met with the leaders of the three political parties, with Mr. Kurti, with Mr. Abdixhiku, and with Mr. Gjini; I am in communication, and it is entirely normal that for topics so important, so challenging and so significant for the country, there should be meetings,” Hamza declared.
As Telegrafi reports, in recent days the PDK has stressed the need for inter-party cooperation regarding the developments after the September 16 ruling, and has said it will determine its next steps based on the situation created.
