“Heart Eyes 2” moves up: new release date is February 4, 2028

Paramount is moving the sequel to the horror-romance starring Olivia Holt up by a week, dodging a clash with Disney’s event film.

“Heart Eyes 2”, the sequel to the horror-romance “Heart Eyes” (2025) starring Olivia Holt, will be released in theaters on February 4, 2028 — a week earlier than the originally planned date of February 11, 2028, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have announced.

The date shift is a strategic move by the studios: with the new date, the film avoids a Disney event film planned for February 11, and instead goes up against Universal’s “Murder, She Wrote”. The announcement came in the same week as the dating of “Crawl 2”, expected on July 16, 2027.

Returning behind the camera is Josh Ruben, the director of the first film, who is also writing the screenplay together with Darcy Fowler. The story is by Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy, with Landon also producing the project. The sequel’s cast has not yet been confirmed; the first film starred Olivia Holt as Ally and Mason Gooding as Jay.

The first film, released in 2025, follows the “Heart Eyes Killer”, a murderer who targets couples on Valentine’s Day. It was well received by critics, holding 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, and earned $30.4 million domestically — about $33.1 million worldwide.
