Hundreds of faithful at a prayer procession in Skopje on the eve of the Mala Bogorodica feast
Hundreds of Orthodox faithful gathered in central Skopje on Sunday evening to take part in a prayer procession (litija) on the eve of the feast of the Nativity of the Holy Mother of God, known in folk tradition as Mala Bogorodica.
At the head of the procession was carried the icon of the Three-Handed Mother of God (Trojeručica), as the faithful prayed through the streets of the North Macedonian capital.
Mala Bogorodica, celebrated on September 21, is one of the great feasts of the Orthodox Church calendar, and solemn liturgies and religious services are being held today in many temples across North Macedonia.
The celebrations that began on Sunday evening with the litija in Skopje continue today with ceremonies in the churches of the capital and throughout the country.
