“I will tell you all the truth”: Ronaldo takes the unexpected decision on Portugal
A bolt from the blue. Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he has left the national team camp after the clash he had with coach Jorge Jesus. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner himself says he took the decision to leave after the communication he had with the president of the federation and after the coach’s press conference.
“After the press conference of Portugal’s coach and after a direct conversation with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have decided to leave the national team camp.
At the right time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, to which I have been devoted since day one.
Now it is time to wish good luck to Portugal and to all my teammates, without exception,” Ronaldo says.
The clash arose before the match against Norway in the Nations League. It is reported that, because he was not going to be a starter, a clash arose between the coach and Ronaldo. The latter appeared at the stadium before the team took the field for the warm-up and then left — only moments before Portugal took the field and won 2-1.
For three days Ronaldo had not shown up for training, while this decision seems to cap an event that could close, in a most unfitting way, the career of a legend with Portugal.
