Inflation in Greece expected to reach 5.1% in September, Eurostat flash estimate shows
Inflation in Greece is expected to have jumped to 5.1% in September, according to Eurostat’s preliminary estimate published today, as Kathimerini reports — a significant rise from 3.7% in August. The monthly pace of prices is estimated at 1.8%.
With this figure, Greece ranks among the countries with the highest inflation in the eurozone — only Lithuania with 6.1%, and Cyprus and Luxembourg with 5.2%, stand above it, according to Eurostat’s September table.
Across the eurozone, annual inflation is expected to reach 3.8% in September, from 3.2% in August — ever further from the European Central Bank’s 2% target.
The rise comes at a time when Eurobank analyses were warning that energy prices are squeezing Greek household budgets and that the August data had not yet reflected September’s new rise in energy prices.
The Bank of Greece had forecast average inflation for 2026 at around 3.5%, easing towards 2.7% in 2027; the full and final September data will be published on October 16.
