Iran receives the U.S. response on the Hormuz plan — Araghchi conveys it to Pezeshkian at the cabinet meeting
Iran has received the United States’ response to its plan for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, as Al Jazeera reports, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirming receipt of the American proposal during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani said that Araghchi conveyed the American response to President Masoud Pezeshkian during the meeting; no details on the content of the response were made public. According to her, Araghchi also reviewed at the meeting the details of his recent trip to New York, including meetings with European and Gulf leaders, as well as the conditions that Iran has conveyed to the U.S. for reopening the strategic strait.
Mohajerani said that “despite the enemy’s efforts to politically isolate Iran, the presence of the Iranian delegation in New York was a major focus of attention” and that diplomatic efforts are being “diligently pursued” to find a solution to the crisis after more than seven months of war.
The development comes after Iran proposed a seven-day plan that would reopen Hormuz if the U.S. lifts oil-related sanctions, unblocks Iranian assets and ends the naval blockade of Iranian ports — a proposal that the American president publicly rejected last week, but indirect talks through Qatar have continued.
