Iranian parliament speaker: “In a region where Iran cannot sell oil, no one else will sell oil either”
The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, warned that no infrastructure in the region will be safe if Iran’s security is not guaranteed, in a new statement quoted by Iran’s state news agency IRIB and reported by Al Jazeera.
“In a region where Iran cannot sell oil, no one else will sell oil either,” Ghalibaf said, in his strongest comments in recent weeks on the escalation of the U.S.–Iran war.
Ghalibaf warned the United States and other countries that Iran would respond to any threat or “adventurism” and that the country’s military is prepared. He was responding to statements by U.S. President Donald Trump on the Strait of Hormuz, according to IRIB.
The statement comes at a moment when oil exports from the Persian Gulf have begun to recover, but diplomatic tensions remain high, with Tehran conditioning the full reopening of the strait on Washington’s acceptance of its demands.
