JAPAN – Death toll from typhoon ‘Dujuan’ rises to nine

TOKYO, September 23 /ATSH-DPA/ — The death toll from typhoon ‘Dujuan’, which brought torrential rains to the greater Tokyo area earlier this week, has risen to nine, Japanese media reported today.

Rescue crews continue the search for missing persons in the neighboring prefectures of Chiba and Kanagawa, the Kyodo news agency reported, citing local authorities.

The typhoon hit the Japanese archipelago on Monday with strong winds and heavy rainfall, forcing hundreds of thousands of people to evacuate to safe areas.

Train and flight services were disrupted across the region, with operations gradually being restored.

Typhoon Dujuan is the 25th tropical storm of the Pacific typhoon season, according to meteorologists.
