Netflix unveils official trailer for ‘Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald’: directed by Judd Apatow, premiering October 16

Netflix has released the official trailer for the documentary “Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald”, an intimate portrait dedicated to one of the most original comedians in American humor. The film, directed by Judd Apatow, will debut on the streaming platform on October 16, 2026.

The documentary is built from a true treasure trove of archival material: rare stage footage, personal photos and home videos contributed by the comedian’s fans and friends. Through this treasure of images and voices comes the feeling that it is Norm Macdonald himself telling his story, in his unforgettable voice.

The trailer features some of the biggest names in world comedy — Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, David Letterman, David Spade, Dave Chappelle and Conan O’Brien — who share memories, anecdotes and tributes to their friend and colleague.

The film doesn’t shy away from the harder chapters of his career either, including the sensational departure from the “Weekend Update” segment of “Saturday Night Live”, a moment that marked his public figure forever.

“Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald” is one of four comedian documentaries Netflix is bringing in October, alongside “Who Is Martin Mull?” (October 7), “Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story” (October 23) and “SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of” (October 30).

Norm Macdonald, known for his distinctive deadpan style and unexpected punchlines, passed away on September 14, 2021, at the age of 61, after a private battle with cancer. This documentary arrives as a deserved homage to a voice that continues to inspire generations of comedians.
