Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper in the documentary ‘Unleashed Spirits’: new trailer ahead of today’s world premiere at Boston Film Festival

Hollywood Vampires, the rock supergroup formed by Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, return to the spotlight with the new documentary “Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires.” Just hours before the world premiere, ComingSoon exclusively published the film’s official trailer, which tells the story of the band that was born as a tribute to rock’s lost friends.

In the new footage, Alice Cooper reveals the origin of the group’s name: a waitress had told them “you only come at night and all you do is drink — you’re like a bunch of vampires.” Joe Perry describes the project as “the ultimate garage band,” while Depp says it is an honor for him to play alongside them. The documentary blends rare interviews, stage moments and archives, following the trio’s rise from an idea among friends to a true concert force.

The film, directed by Daniel E. Catullo III, will have its world premiere today, September 18, 2026, at the Boston Film Festival, with a screening at the Boch Center Wang Theatre. The premiere marks an important moment for fans, who have waited years for a cinematic telling of the band that brought together three legends of music and cinema.

Hollywood Vampires were initially formed as a tribute to the ’70s rock stars who passed away, but quickly turned into a group with albums and world tours. The documentary is expected to bring previously unreleased backstage and tour footage.
