“Joint operations against crime”: Demo meets Italian ambassador, says cooperation also helps Albania meet EU Chapter 24 goals
Interior Minister Ervin Demo met Italian Ambassador Marco Alberti on Tuesday, with the focus on further strengthening the strategic partnership between Albania and Italy in the field of security.
In a statement on social media, Demo said cooperation between the two countries rests on a consolidated framework of bilateral security, migration and border-management agreements and protocols.
“At its heart are joint investigations and operations against serious and organized crime, drug and human trafficking, and the prevention of cross-border criminal activity,” he said.
Demo also praised Italian support and expertise in strengthening investigative and inter-institutional capacities, the professional development of law-enforcement agencies and the improvement of operational tools.
“This joint work strengthens the security of our citizens and helps us fulfill Albania’s commitments under Chapter 24 of the EU accession negotiations,” he said.
