Jordan Kyrou Scores in Overtime, Gives Capitals 3–2 Win Over Bruins
Jordan Kyrou scored the game-winner 11 seconds into overtime, giving the Washington Capitals a 3–2 victory over the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena. It was Kyrou’s first goal since his June 23 transfer from the St. Louis Blues.
As reported by NHL.com, Dylan Strome and Tom Wilson each scored a goal and added an assist, while Pierre-Luc Dubois recorded two assists for Washington (2-0-1). Goaltender Logan Thompson made 20 saves. For Boston (2-2-0), David Pastrnak and Morgan Geekie scored, while Jeremy Swayman recorded 32 saves. The Bruins open the regular season at home against the New York Rangers on Tuesday (8:00 p.m. ET).
The game was played at a high pace: Strome opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period, at 18:04, capitalizing on a rebound of Wilson’s attempt. Wilson doubled the lead with a backhand at 1:39 of the second period, after a Strome pass that clipped Dubois’s skate. Geekie cut the deficit to 2–1 in the third, with a one-timer deflected after a pass in motion from Pavel Zacha; Pastrnak tied it 2–2 with a shot from the left circle on a power play.
According to NHL.com, the Capitals’ overtime win gives the team momentum ahead of the new season, while the Bruins closed the preseason with two wins and two losses.
