Justice Ministry: Draft law on the Specialist Chambers requires further constitutional assessment

The Ministry of Justice has assessed that the draft law on amending and supplementing the Law on Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office requires further specialised assessment in the Assembly, particularly regarding its compatibility with the Constitution and Kosovo’s international obligations.

The Ministry’s opinion states that, given the nature and importance of the legislative initiative, the issue is complex, as a number of legal arrangements of different natures are intertwined.

According to the Ministry, the compatibility of these changes with the Constitution of Kosovo, especially with Amendment No. 24, as well as with international instruments and obligations, requires special review.

The Ministry announced that, through the Government, it remains ready to provide its professional contribution during the discussions and the further review procedure of the draft law in the Assembly.
