Haziri: We are not 12, but 18 MPs who can vote for the president
Lutfi Haziri, an MP of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), was asked whether his party colleagues in the Assembly would support Bekim Sejdiu’s candidacy for president, should an agreement be reached with the other parties, including the PDK, as Klan Kosova reports.
Haziri, in an interview for the “Info Magazine” programme on Klan Kosova, said the issue is not about Bekim Sejdiu’s name, but about reaching a consensus that would ensure unity of the vote.
“In practical terms, it has nothing to do with the specific name, it has nothing to do with Bekim, as a proposed candidate with credibility. It has to do with the failure to reach a consensus that secures unity of the vote, so that he can ensure the unity of the people in the future,” Haziri said, according to Klan Kosova’s reporting.
Asked whether, in the event of an agreement with the other parties on Bekim Sejdiu, LDK MPs would continue to support him, Haziri said: “Do not divide us, we are 18. We have one difference, one case, but the LDK has a value of democracy — we unite in our differences. So that is just an episode that happened on one occasion when views differed…”
The statement comes at a time when Kosovo’s Assembly has until October 6 to elect the new president, while talks between political leaders on the Law on the Specialist Chambers and the presidency continue.
