Kelsey Mitchell breaks WNBA single-season scoring record
Kelsey Mitchell set a new WNBA record for points scored in a single season, reaching 1,023 points with a three-pointer in the third quarter of the game against the Toronto Tempo. The shot also gave her 22 points in that matchup and extended her streak of 25 consecutive games with at least 20 points; she has also scored at least 15 points in every game this season.
As Bleacher Report reports, Mitchell’s total surpassed the previous record of 1,021 points held by A’ja Wilson in 2024. Wilson also held the record for consecutive games with at least 20 points, with 20 such games across the 2023–2024 span.
This season is the third straight in which Mitchell has increased her offensive output; before the latest game she was averaging 25.0 points per game, second in the league. Wilson leads the league at 26.1 points per game, but three absences caused by an ankle injury have lowered her season total. The two are the only players in WNBA history to surpass 1,000 points in a single season, and they are competing for the 2026 scoring title.
Both teams are expected to play their remaining three regular-season games, with playoff spots still open: the Las Vegas Aces entered the final stretch at 28-13, while the Indiana Fever stood at 26-14. An Indiana win would tie them with the Atlanta Dream for fourth place, which would determine home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. According to Bleacher Report, the end of this season could also decide the winner of the scoring title.
