Klekovski: Ohrid’s ‘St. Erazmo’ Hospital to Get New Wing and Four Operating Rooms by New Year
Health Minister Sasho Klekovski announced that the Special Hospital for Orthopedics and Traumatology “St. Erazmo” in Ohrid is expected to open its new wing by New Year, with four modern operating rooms — up from roughly one and a half operating rooms the institution currently has.
The investment exceeds €2 million, and the financial structure was finalized after more than a year of intensive work with the hospital’s management. The funds were secured from several sources: the Health Insurance Fund, the hospital’s own budget, other state institutions, and donations from socially responsible companies.
According to the minister, a contractor has already been selected to complete the construction works, while equipment procurement procedures are partly underway and partly set to be renewed.
The hospital’s director, Hari Shokarovski, said the goal is to turn the institution into a reference center for orthopedics and neurosurgery. According to him, the number of hip-joint operations has increased by 40 percent over the past two years, making “St. Erazmo” one of the three most important institutions for such operations, alongside the Clinical Center in Skopje and the “8 September” hospital.
