Konjufca in New York: Verdict Against Former KLA Leaders Is an Injustice That Must Be Corrected

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Glauk Konjufca attended the second annual gala evening of the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC), held in New York.

The event was attended by representatives of the Albanian-American community, friends of the Albanian community and numerous public figures.

In his address, Konjufca praised the contribution of the Albanian community in the United States, stressing the role of Albanian activists, associations and organizations in raising awareness of American institutions and public opinion about Kosovo’s cause.

According to him, the contribution of the Albanian diaspora in the U.S. stands at the foundation of Kosovo’s freedom and independence.

Speaking about the first-instance verdict of the Specialist Chambers against former KLA leaders, Konjufca described it as an injustice which, in his view, goes beyond the personal fate of the convicted.

“The injustice goes beyond the personal fate of the convicted and touches our cause for liberation and freedom,” said Konjufca.

He stressed that this injustice, in his view, must be corrected, while calling for the protection of the legitimacy of the KLA’s liberation war and the right of the people of Kosovo to liberation from oppression.

Konjufca also spoke about the institutional and democratic situation in Kosovo, calling for political responsibility and reflection.

He said state and national interest must be placed above narrow party interests, while in challenging times, he said, national cohesion and the stable functioning of institutions are essential.

At the end of his speech, Konjufca thanked AARC for its commitment to strengthening and advancing Albanian-American relations, and for its role in preserving and strengthening the bond of the Albanian community in the U.S. with Kosovo and Albania, as Telegrafi reports.
