“Kreni-Promeni” gives the prosecution 48 hours: React to the attack on Tatjana Mičić, or we will publish the prosecutor’s name

The “Kreni-Promeni” movement today asked the Third Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade to state its position and act within 48 hours regarding the incident in which, according to the movement’s claims, mayor Aleksandar Šapić attacked their councillor Tatjana Mičić. The news was carried today by the Serbian portal Danas, referring to the movement’s announcement.

The movement’s leader, Savo Manojlović, said that institutions “must show that the law applies equally to everyone”. “We were more than patient. We will send the medical report to the prosecution and the police three times; if necessary, the lawyers will go to the prosecution again today. Every patience has an end. We give the prosecution 48 hours to finally give an answer,” Manojlović said, as “Kreni-Promeni” reports.

He warned that if there is no reaction within the deadline, the movement will publish the name of the prosecutor on the case — “not because we want to pursue or target anyone, but because there must be a system of accountability, and in that system everyone has a first and last name,” he is quoted as saying in Danas.

Manojlović added that the “Kreni-Promeni” councillors’ group will submit to the Belgrade Assembly a request for the mayor’s dismissal. “After everything that happened, our position is that Aleksandar Šapić cannot remain mayor of Belgrade,” he said, according to Danas.

The incident occurred on the evening of 28 September in Bežanijska Kosa. According to the movement, Šapić attacked Mičić after she intervened in a confrontation between the mayor and her husband, breaking her nose. The mayor denies the accusations and says he defended himself.
