Limaj at the ‘Not in My Name’ Protest: Kosovo’s State and People Will Not Let Their History Be Rewritten

Fatmir Limaj, leader of Nisma, took part in the ‘Not in My Name’ protest on Skënderbeu Square in Pristina, saying the Specialist Court’s judgment in The Hague has stirred a sense of pride among Kosovo’s citizens for the Kosovo Liberation Army and its contribution to the country’s liberation, according to KosovaPress.

Limaj said the court’s decision has confirmed what, in his words, was always known — that the KLA embodies the identity of the nation and of Kosovo’s freedom. ‘I believe this grave situation after the Hague Court’s decision has brought to light what we have always known: the Kosovo Liberation Army is the identity of this nation, of freedom,’ he said.

He stressed that the verdict should not be viewed only in relation to the individuals on trial, but as part of an effort to change the interpretation of Kosovo’s history. ‘This verdict is not about the individual; this verdict has an objective to erase one history and rewrite a history,’ Limaj said.

‘I am glad that people have understood’ that ‘the state and the people of Kosovo will not allow their history to be rewritten,’ he added, addressing the demonstrators in the square.
