Lindsay Lohan reunites with “Mean Girls” director for Netflix romantic film “Return to You”

Netflix has announced the new romantic film “Return to You,” starring Lindsay Lohan and Henry Golding, as Deadline reports. Lohan will not only take the lead role but also produce the film — her fourth collaboration with the platform after the romantic comedies “Falling for Christmas,” “Irish Wish,” and “Our Little Secret.”

The film is directed by Mark Waters, reuniting Lohan with the filmmaker 22 years after the cult comedy “Mean Girls” (2004), the film that made her a pop-culture icon. Waters also directed Lohan in the comedy “Freaky Friday” (2003), while the screenplay of “Return to You” is by Eric Champnella.

The story is set in 2008: Lohan plays a powerful but lonely lawyer who mistakenly receives a deeply emotional DVD sent by a dying woman for her husband — the character played by Golding. With only the traces from the disc as her guide, she sets out to find that man — and along the way falls in love with the grieving widower.

Alongside Lohan herself, the film is produced by Brad Krevoy of MPCA. Filming began in Toronto on September 28, 2026 and is scheduled to wrap on November 10.

The project comes at the peak of what the media has dubbed the “Lohannaisance” — Lohan’s big cinematic comeback. In a recent interview with Empire, the actress said she now wants to be “fully involved” in every project she takes on. Last year she also revived the success of “Freaky Friday” with the sequel “Freakier Friday,” again alongside Jamie Lee Curtis.
