Macedonian flag raised in New York’s financial district for the 35th anniversary of independence
In honor of the 35th anniversary of North Macedonia’s independence, the Macedonian flag was solemnly raised today over New York, Faktor reports.
The traditional ceremony was held in New York’s financial district, in front of the famous Charging Bull monument.
Representatives of the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD), which organized the event, thanked the dozens of Macedonians who came despite the bad weather and storm warnings.
Ardži Belio of the UMD told MIA: “With this gesture we want to remind everyone that we are here and that we will not disappear. Like today’s weather, we had 35 difficult years, in which they tried to erase us, but they did not succeed and we are still here. The UMD’s task is to bring Macedonians together, because we are stronger when we are together.”
The solemnity was marked with the performance of the Macedonian and American anthems, as well as the performance of singer Andrijana Janevski, who sang the hit “Zemjo Mila”.
