Magistrates challenge the Constitutional Court’s salary formula

Albania’s magistrates have challenged the salary formula set by the Constitutional Court, arguing it fails to reflect their responsibilities and risks deepening staffing shortages in the justice system.

In a public statement, the magistrates’ associations said the formula used to calculate their pay does not account for workload, inflation and the specific nature of judicial office.

They warn that inadequate pay could discourage young lawyers from joining the judiciary at a time when courts already face significant vacancies after the vetting process.

The Constitutional Court has not yet responded to the magistrates’ objections.
