Major Fire at Auto Scrapyard in Tetovo: Tires, Batteries and Car Parts Burn — Explosions and Thick Smoke

A large fire broke out today at an auto scrapyard in Tetovo, where tires, batteries and plastic vehicle parts were engulfed in flames, Denesen.mk reports.

A column of thick smoke was visible from afar, while occasional explosions alarmed residents of the area. Firefighters battled the flames for hours, fighting to bring the situation under control. Local residents also joined the effort, helping emergency crews extinguish the fire and protect surrounding buildings.

Avni Ameti, head of the Protection and Rescue Unit in Tetovo, told TV21 that the gas station near the fire site has been secured and poses no risk for the moment. He explained that the explosions heard come from the various batteries burning at the scrapyard.

The Municipal Environmental Inspectorate also arrived at the scene and is conducting tests to determine whether the fire has caused environmental pollution. The inspectorate’s head, Armend Salihi, warned of measures against the owners if violations of the law are found.

Because of the burning tires and other materials, as well as the thick smoke over Tetovo, the inspectorate and firefighters advise area residents to keep their windows closed until the pollution clears.
