Major fire in Peqin, flames scorch areas of olive trees and vegetation

A large-scale fire has engulfed the villages of Galush and Gjevurë in Peqin since the early hours of the morning, causing damage to considerable areas of olive trees and vegetation. The flames have spread over a wide area, while firefighters are continuing the operation to isolate the outbreaks and bring the situation under control.

A helicopter has also been engaged in the firefighting operation, while strong winds are favouring the spread of the flames and making the intervention of the teams on the ground more difficult. Efforts to neutralise the outbreaks continue, while reports from the field speak of large areas affected by the fire in both villages.
