Malaj: Albania is closer to Europe, progress toward the EU is indisputable
Socialist MP Erion Malaj has commented on Albania’s progress on the road toward the European Union, stressing that the country is closer to Europe and that this progress has also been recognised by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The socialist MP also dwelt on the investigations and public debates about Vlora Hyseni that accompany the justice developments. According to him, whenever there is an event or an investigation, public noise is created, while he stressed that an investigation should not be equated with guilt.
He said that responsibilities are individual and that the justice system, reformed with political will, must function.
“That we are closer to Europe is a fact; President von der Leyen recognised that progress which we have been stating for months and years. Albania’s progress on the road toward the EU is indisputable. Whenever there are events and investigations, there is noise.
It is this justice system that we have asked for; there are investigations and it is totally within the power of the other branch for these investigations to be carried out. An investigation is not guilt; here they want to set up guillotines, to denigrate in public every person while they are under investigation. We do not comment on them; responsibilities are individual and we want this justice system, reformed with political will, to function. Agreement between the parties exists; this objective has been accepted for a long time and has been deemed achievable; it can happen at any moment. Coordination between the parties is not only daily, but hourly.”
