“Masquerade” announces “Le Bal Macabre”: a second Halloween ball in the Phantom’s lair

The immersive production Masquerade, the new version of The Phantom of the Opera playing Off-Broadway in New York, will host the Halloween ball Le Bal Macabre for the second year in a row in the Phantom’s lair, right after the October 31 performances — as Playbill reports. All spectators attending the show that evening are invited to the soirée, while the production will also sell ball-only tickets.

According to Playbill, the Halloween ball will offer live music and performances under the famous chandelier. The dress code remains the same as for any performance date — with one slight difference: this time guests are asked to dress specifically in black (white and silver are usually also allowed) and are encouraged to dress as extravagantly as possible for the occasion.

The immersive The Phantom of the Opera officially opened its curtain on September 29 of last year at 218 W. 57th Street, in the former Lee’s Art Shop, and was recently extended for the sixth time — now playing through January 31, 2027. Modeled on the legendary immersive production Sleep No More, Masquerade places the audience inside the intrigue of Gaston Leroux’s novel through the prism of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 1986 musical.

Each evening, six groups of spectators of about 60 people each follow the show, which means the full cast has more leads than the Broadway production did: seven actors share the role of the Phantom, among them Nick Cartell, Quentin Earl Darrington and Derrick Davis; six actresses play Christine, including Claire Leyden and Francesca Mehrotra. The creative team is led by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus.
