Massive fire sweeps olive-covered hills of Gorishovë in Fier; wind fans flames, residents alarmed, rugged terrain hampers firefighters
A large fire broke out at midday today in the olive-covered hills of the village of Gorishovë, part of the Cakran administrative unit in the Municipality of Fier.
Fanned by strong winds, the flames spread rapidly across a wide area covered with scrub, olive trees and forest, alarming residents of the area.
Fire services arrived at the scene immediately and are working to isolate and neutralize the fire hotspots.
The operation is facing many difficulties due to the broken mountainous terrain, although the flames are fortunately far from the inhabited area.
This incident comes just one day after another massive fire that hit the same administrative unit. Yesterday, flames engulfed the hills of Kreshpan, where the environmental and economic damage was considerable.
Yesterday around 2,000 olive roots were scorched in the hills of Kreshpan. The fire burned a considerable area of surrounding forest and pasture. The broken terrain and weather conditions are hampering the full intervention of firefighting vehicles.
