Matthew Morrison returns to Broadway: reprises the role of Bobby Darin in “Just in Time”
Matthew Morrison will return to Broadway this fall: the well-known actor will again play Bobby Darin in the hit musical “Just in Time” for a limited three-week engagement, as Playbill reports. Morrison begins performances on Tuesday, October 20, at the Circle in the Square Theatre. He replaces current star Jeremy Jordan, who gives his final performance as Bobby Darin on Sunday, October 18. That same evening, Carrie St. Louis, who has played Sandra Dee, also departs. Morrison has already performed the role of Darin earlier this year, in an equally three-week engagement.
The production’s current cast also includes Ariana Madix as Connie Francis (through November 22), Debbie Gravitte as Polly and Emily Bergl as Nina/Mary. As previously announced, Whitney Leavitt will take over the role of Sandra Dee from December 1 for six weeks; the actor who will play the role in the interval between the two performers has not yet been announced.
“Just in Time” is developed and directed by Tony winner Alex Timbers, with a book by Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver and choreography by Shannon Lewis. The production immerses Bobby Darin’s iconic music — “Beyond the Sea,” “Mack the Knife,” “Splish Splash” and “Dream Lover” — in an intimate nightclub setting with a live band on stage. According to BroadwayWorld, it is the only musical of the 2024–2025 season to have fully recouped its initial capitalization.
Morrison is known to wide audiences as Will Schuester in the series “Glee” (2009–2015), for which he was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, while on Broadway he has performed in “The Light in the Piazza” (Tony nomination), “South Pacific,” “Hairspray,” “Footloose” and “Finding Neverland.”
