Meta and YouTube agree to run ads for the “Musk” documentary — X refuses
LOS ANGELES, September 27, 2026 – Meta and YouTube have agreed to run advertising for “Musk”, the new documentary on Elon Musk’s political rise, while X — Musk’s own platform — has refused to carry the ads, as the Financial Times reports.
The film traces Musk’s journey from tech entrepreneur to political power broker, including his role in the 2024 U.S. election and his influence over the current administration.
Producers said Meta and Google-owned YouTube cleared the ad campaign after review, while X declined without detailed explanation — an irony given that the documentary’s subject owns the platform.
The refusal has fueled debate about content moderation and political advertising standards on social media, with the filmmakers accusing X of suppressing scrutiny of its owner.
“Musk” is set for release in cinemas and on streaming platforms in the coming weeks, with distributors expecting strong interest given the subject’s polarizing public profile.
