“MI – Power of the People” Official: Dismissal of Presidency Members Opposing Vulin Coalition Was Illegal

At the extraordinary session of the Assembly of the “MI – Power of the People” movement, the dismissal of Presidency members who oppose the coalition with Aleksandar Vulin’s Socialist Movement was voted on in an illegal and illegitimate manner, while the decision to enter that coalition was never taken. This was declared today for “Insajder” by deputy and member of the movement’s Presidency, Borislav Antonijević.
Antonijević claims the party’s Statute was violated during the session, according to which the Assembly cannot itself dismiss Presidency members. “The president may propose dismissal, which must then be approved by a two-thirds majority of the Presidency and submitted to the Assembly for declaration. This procedure was not followed,” Antonijević said.
According to him, the announced agenda had foreseen discussion on running in the elections and the current political situation, but neither of these two items was discussed. Instead, at the proposal of the movement’s president, Branimir Nestorović, the dismissal of Presidency members was voted on. Antonijević adds that it is not even known who took part in the vote: “Of the forty or so people who voted, I knew maybe 12 or 13. After the vote they started leaving.”
He emphasized that the coalition with the Socialist Movement has not been voted on and no decision has been made for “MI – Power of the People” to run in the parliamentary elections. According to him, per the Statute, the Presidency decides on running in the elections, the coalition partners and the electoral list, but Nestorović does not convene a new session. Regarding the previously announced cooperation with Vladimir Gajić’s People’s Party, the Presidency had approved the coalition, but the agreement was never signed: “Neither the list name nor the signature-verification forms were approved, so signature collection cannot begin.”
According to Antonijević, Nestorović said at the session that a coalition agreement had been signed with three parties, but did not say which parties; he stresses that the Presidency has not decided on such an agreement. Just yesterday, the Presidency members of “MI – Power of the People” warned that a coalition with Aleksandar Vulin’s party was being imposed on them and announced possible attempts to dismiss them, saying that the majority of Presidency members voted last week against that coalition, while the same decision was taken unanimously at the July session.
