Miray Cruises’ ship ‘Gemini’ put up for auction in Greece over operator’s debts
The cruise ship “Gemini”, owned by the Turkish company Miray Cruises, will go up for auction in Greece on October 21, 2026, in an effort to settle the operator’s debts. The news was published today by the Greek financial portal New Money, according to which the auction will start at a base price of €3,805,462 — a value calculated on the ship’s worth as scrap metal.
The auction is organized by Anira Shipping Services and aims to settle a monetary claim of around €22,772. The ship was seized in June 2026, after spending two months in the bay of Karistos on the island of Evia. On June 24, “Gemini” was towed to the port of Elefsina, near Piraeus, where it remains anchored to this day.
The seizure came as a result of Miray Cruises’ debts to the Turkish DenizBank. Meanwhile, the International Labour Organization (ILO) had classified the vessel as “abandoned” as early as May 21, 2026, while the crew complained about unpaid wages.
“Gemini” was built in 1992 in Valencia, Spain, weighs 19,093 tons and has capacity for 960 passengers and around 400 cabins. It was purchased by Miray Cruises in 2020. But its technical condition is poor: corrosion is reported in many areas, there are problems with the piping, suspended certificates and a questionable Cameroonian flag.
The ship is under the jurisdiction of the Elefsina Coast Guard, is prohibited from sailing and is offered for sale on an “as is, where is” basis.
