MOL confirms NIS purchase process from Gazpromneft continues, OFAC extends licenses until October 30
The Hungarian company MOL confirmed to the Tanjug agency that the process of buying NIS from Gazpromneft is continuing. According to reporting by nsuzivo.rs, the announcement was made today, October 3, 2026.
As MOL told Tanjug, on September 30 the company received from OFAC — the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control — a license to continue negotiations for the purchase of a majority stake in Naftna industrija Srbije a.d. (NIS) until October 30, 2026.
Realizing the transaction also requires the approval of OFAC and other competent bodies. Also on September 30, OFAC extended NIS’s operating license until October 30, as well as JANAF’s license for transporting crude oil for NIS until the same date, according to nsuzivo.rs.
The new licenses give the parties additional time to complete negotiations on one of the most important energy transactions in the region, at a time when the future of NIS remains at the center of political and economic attention in Serbia.
