MOSCOW – Ukrainian Drone Attack During Parliamentary Elections

MOSCOW, September 20 /ATSH-DPA/ – Ukraine has struck Moscow with drones, causing the deaths of at least two people, according to Russian officials.

More than 180 drones were intercepted, reported the Russian state news agency TASS, citing Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrei Vorobyov, said two people had lost their lives and at least six others, including two children, were injured.

The information could not be independently verified at the time of reporting.

The drone attack occurred on the final day of the three-day parliamentary elections in Russia, which are expected to confirm the dominance of Kremlin-loyal parties in the Duma.

The elections are taking place at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to be a central issue for the country.

These are the first Duma elections since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The elections have been described as a referendum on the continuation of the war, while critics considered the process unfair even before it began, as the opposition was prevented from taking part.

Russia has repeatedly attacked Ukrainian cities with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, guided bombs and drones.

Ukraine, backed by Western military aid, has responded with attacks on Russian territory, using mainly relatively low-cost, fast-to-produce drones, as well as cruise missiles.
