Tirana Traffic Police on the hunt for problem drivers, 24-hour monitoring with modern equipment

The Tirana Traffic Police, in 24/7 monitoring with modern equipment, to guarantee road safety and regulate movement.

The focus of the special plans of measures, undertaken last week and over the weekend, was:

identifying and punishing drivers under the effect of alcohol, who use a mobile phone and/or do not wear a seat belt/protective helmet.

As a result of the constant monitoring, during this period 32 citizens were arrested/criminally proceeded against, 48 vehicles were impounded and 13,522 administrative measures were imposed, among them:

– 8,818 for improper stopping and parking;

– 1,243 for failure by motorcycle drivers to wear a protective helmet;

– 602 for failure to wear a seat belt;

– 487 for using a telephone while driving;

– 66 for improperly entering the deceleration lane;

– 26 for driving under the effect of alcohol.

Daily verification and checks of public transport vehicles and of those transporting school pupils, to prevent and immediately establish violations that could endanger passenger safety;

monitoring in the field and in the digital space of cases of blocked movement on motorways and/or high-traffic axes, with columns of vehicles circulating for festive events.

In this context, after the publication of a video on social media showing this unlawful behaviour on the “Tirana–Durrës” motorway, immediate measures were taken, such as the criminal proceeding, in a state of freedom, of 3 of the citizens appearing in the footage, for the criminal offence of “Obstructing the circulation of means of transport”, as well as the seizure of the vehicles they were driving and the respective administrative measures under the road code. Actions are continuing to bring before legal responsibility all the authors of this unlawful behaviour, which caused chaos in traffic and became an obstacle for other road users.

The checks and monitoring of the Tirana Traffic Police will continue on all urban and interurban axes. Daily checks will also continue of vehicles transporting school pupils and of urban buses, to prevent road incidents with consequences, as well as to establish violations and take punitive measures in accordance with the law.
