Motion for a debate on Vlora Hyseni: SP and DP fail to agree at the Conference of Presidents, approval passes to Parliament
The Democratic Party and the Socialist Party failed to reach agreement on Thursday at the Conference of Presidents on the opposition’s request for a motion for a debate regarding the case of the former director of SHISH, Vlora Hyseni. After the discussions they failed to find common ground, so approval will pass to the plenary session in Parliament.
During her speech, Democratic MP Jorida Tabaku said that Prime Minister Edi Rama must account for the Vlora Hyseni case and how she was appointed to head SHISH.
“First, let me say that I trust you better than all the others, since you have been a former defence minister, but also other colleagues, such as Mr. Mediu and others who have worked in the field of defence, know the importance of this issue. To treat this as a national issue, not as a partisan issue or one of one-sided discussions by the majority.
I first want to raise the concern that the meeting of the Security Council, without representatives from the opposition, was for me not only one-sided, but at the same time a decision that offered no transparency. Because, if transparency had been offered at the Security Council meeting to discuss there some of the concerns the opposition has raised, we would certainly be discussing in a different prism.
The fact that the Security Council meeting was convened by the same people who would also sit at the table, who have had it in their hands to prevent, control and monitor this phenomenon, which was not new to public opinion or to politics, because we have denounced it for years. And there were the very same people who could have taken the decision and did not take it.
For me, it makes a parliamentary debate extremely necessary. I listened with great interest to the colleague who spoke before me, and I do not know in which of the points that the Special Prosecution is requesting and investigating do the Democratic Party’s requests connect.
The Special Prosecution is verifying, checking and investigating the fact that the citizen Vlora Hyseni helped, by supplying classified data and information, the citizen Ergys Agasi, who is accused of a series of criminal offences.
Meanwhile, the requests we have made are not connected to the subject of the investigation by the Special Prosecution.
The prime minister should have to come and give answers! Unfortunately, this parliament cannot be used as a political shield,” she said.
The head of the DP Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, said during his speech that the motion has no connection to investigative secrecy or to the prosecution’s file, but seeks political and institutional accountability for the mechanisms of control, appointment, oversight and removal of the director. According to him, Prime Minister Edi Rama bears direct responsibility, since it was he who appointed her to head the institution.
