Mujku: The trial panel committed a violation if it took Rexhep Selimi’s statements into account
The first-instance convictions of the former KLA leaders by the Specialist Court continue to be a topic of discussion. On Klan Kosova’s “Speciale” programme, journalist Rina Mujku commented on the sentence against Rexhep Selimi in particular, who received the lowest sentence of the four, as Klan Kosova reports. According to Mujku, Selimi’s behaviour while in detention was also taken into account as a mitigating circumstance in his case.
“We are talking about Rexhep Selimi exclusively, since in the pronouncement of the judgment, in the 40-page summary of a judgment that is 2,089 pages and was submitted at exactly 10:00, precisely at the time the pronouncement of the judgment began on September 16. Naturally that will come out, but not many other names included there will come out — Rexhep Selimi, who is convicted to 13 years in prison for war crimes… one of the mitigating circumstances taken into account for Rexhep Selimi are also his sincere answers, and we now know that these are the interviews Selimi gave during 2019 and also in 2020 at the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office,” Mujku said.
However, according to her, the trial panel committed a violation if it truly took Rexhep Selimi’s statements into account. “It committed a violation that has never been seen and has never been allowed at other international courts, including the Tribunal for War Crimes in the former Yugoslavia, because such a thing is not permitted,” journalist Rina Mujku said, among other things.
