Nagavci: Changing the law today does not bring the former KLA leaders back home, it does not undo the damage

Kosovo Assembly MP from the ranks of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Arbërie Nagavci, declared that the issue of the Specialist Chambers is an issue of special importance, stressing that the decision to establish them was taken in 2015.

Nagavci recalled that Vetëvendosje was against the creation of the Specialist Chambers and that, according to her, this stance has not changed today either.

“We have before us today an issue of special importance, which should have been resolved in 2015, when a decision of high importance was taken,” Nagavci declared.

She said that her stance and that of the political entity she represents has been that every criminal offence committed by individuals should be dealt with by the justice institutions inside Kosovo.

“We were against the creation of the Specialist Chambers and our stance has not changed today either. Every criminal offence committed by individuals should have been dealt with by the justice institutions inside Kosovo,” she said.

According to Nagavci, the parliamentary majority of 2015 took another decision, making constitutional changes and paving the way for the establishment of the Special Court.

“The parliamentary majority of 2015 made another choice, the Constitution was changed and the Special Court was established,” the MP said.

Nagavci described today’s reaction as belated, stressing that 11 years have passed since the decision to establish the Specialist Chambers.

“11 years later, the reaction is belated,” she declared, as Telegrafi reports.

Nevertheless, Nagavci made it known that if those who supported the establishment of this court in 2015 now seek to change the law, she and her parliamentary group will support such an effort.

“Even if those who supported this solution in 2015 today seek to change the law, we will support this effort,” Nagavci stressed.

On the other hand, the MP warned that changing the law should not be seen as an automatic solution to the situation created.

“Changing the law today does not free the convicted persons and does not bring the former KLA leaders back home,” she said.

Nagavci assessed that the belated reaction should not be followed by the conviction that a quick solution has been found for such a complex issue. According to her, besides legal actions, a great diplomatic effort is also needed.

“The belated reaction should not be followed by the conviction that we have made a quick solution. A great diplomatic effort must be made, as the consequences have also affected the law,” Nagavci declared.

She concluded her stance by stressing that changing the law at this moment is not enough to undo the situation created over the years.

“Changing the law today does not undo this damage,” Nagavci concluded, as Telegrafi reports.
