NAMES/ They blocked the road at “Zogu i Zi” on the first day of school – Police arrest 12 protesters, several of them organizers

Yesterday’s illegal protest at “Zogu i Zi”, which blocked the main road on the first day of school, led to the handcuffing of 12 people, among them several organizers.

Another 15 were criminally processed by Tirana Police, facing several charges.

Tirana Police announcement:

“In continuation of the investigative and procedural actions carried out by the structures of the Tirana Local Police Directorate, regarding the rally held on 14.09.2026:

– the following citizens were arrested in flagrante: Ermelind Kuka, 19; Dorjan Balla, 36; Artan Daci, 41; Ervis Beqaj, 36; Ramazan Dauti, 31; Bekim Imeraj, 37; Visuar Dalipi, 29; Axhim Micalliu, 20; Aleandro Ahmetsulaj, 56; Ridvan Kamberi, 63; Klodian Bajrami, 24, and Enrik Xhemalaj, 39;

– materials were referred to the Prosecution Office, where proceedings were initiated in a free state against citizens F. B., 32; B. K., 27; A. Zh., 26; S. E., 32; M. R., 28; A. P., 49; L. B., 39; K. N., 20; F. K., 34; E. N., 33; A. D., 23; E. P., 31; L. P., 26; M. P., 18, and I. M., 28.

On 14.09.2026, at around 07:30, a group of people gathered in “Skënderbej” square for an unauthorized rally and marched toward Rruga e Durrësit, where they stopped near a high school, calling on pupils to boycott the learning process and take part in the rally, breaching the school’s security perimeter.

Despite calls by Police officers to move away from the school’s security perimeter and to clear the sidewalk for citizens to pass, several rally participants disobeyed orders and violently resisted Police officers during escort.

The procedural materials were referred to the Prosecution Office at the Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance in Tirana for further action, for the criminal offenses of “Organizing and participating in illegal gatherings and demonstrations”, “Opposing a public order Police officer”, “Disobeying the order of a Police officer”, “Disturbing public peace” and “Inciting minors to crime”.”
