Narodna mreža after Vučić’s resignation: Security services must act under the Constitution — not as instruments of an outgoing government
The organization “Narodna mreža” today called on members of the state apparatus to act in the coming period strictly under the Constitution and the law, and not to allow escalation of the situation or conflicts in society, as reported by the newspaper Danas.
The call comes after the resignation of President Aleksandar Vučić. According to the organization, Serbia is in a situation where key state functions are in caretaker mandates or “acting” status: National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabić, who is expected to serve as acting president, Prime Minister Đuro Macut, and Vučić himself — all members of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
The organization sees the period of major geopolitical shifts and the tense election campaign ahead of the October 25 elections as a moment that could produce serious social divisions. It therefore specifically calls on the state bodies responsible for security not to allow themselves to become instruments of any unconstitutional or illegal action by the outgoing government or foreign power centers.
In its statement, “Narodna mreža” — which says it has backed opposition groupings in the upcoming elections — called on all election participants to show responsibility and contribute to preventing conflict in society.
