Nations League / De la Fuente names squad with two newcomers and two returns
Just 61 days after Ferran’s goal that made Spain world champions, Luis de la Fuente names his squad for the upcoming Nations League matches.
It is a carefully crafted list, planning for the future. He has weighed performances both at clubs and with the national team.
This squad comes with Ceuta in everyone’s hearts, including that of the RFEF, as it was the central theme of the announcement. There are some physical problems that have forced several changes to the list.
Joan García’s knee injury opens the door for a debut, while Josep Martínez, shining at Inter, wins the race against Leo Román. He is one of the new faces, but there are more. In attack, the presence of Roberto Fernández stands out, who has performed quite well at Espanyol.
Fermín’s return was expected, but now it is official. He was a regular starter before his fateful injury and will remain so. Moreover, he has started the season brilliantly. And he is taking the place of Gavi, who is the one left out. Another high-profile return is that of Dean Huijsen.
Spain’s squad:
Goalkeepers: Unai Simón, David Raya, Josep Martínez.
Defenders: Pedro Porro, Pubill, Laporte, Cubarsí, Eric García, Huijsen, Cucurella, Grimaldo.
Midfielders: Rodrigo, Zubimendi, Fabián, Pedri, Merino, Fermín, Olmo.
Forwards: Lamine Yamal, Víctor Muñoz, Nico Williams, Baena, Yeremy Pino, Oyarzabal, Ferran and Roberto.
