NIPHK warns of measles: 172 cases, over 95% of those affected unvaccinated
The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK) has called for the vaccination of children against measles, describing it as the most important and safest measure to protect the health of children and the community.
According to data published by NIPHK, during the period from April 16 to September 20, 2026, a total of 172 measles cases were confirmed in Kosovo. In the last week alone, seven new cases were registered.
The institute announced that over 95 percent of confirmed cases are among people unvaccinated with the MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella. “Vaccination is the best protection — together we protect children’s health,” the NIPHK statement says.
In addition to regular vaccination according to the immunization calendar, NIPHK has announced that delayed vaccination, known as catch-up, has also been intensified for children who, for various reasons, were not vaccinated on time.
According to the institute, during this year more than 3,176 children aged 2–5 have been vaccinated through the delayed vaccination program. NIPHK has praised the engagement of parents, health professionals, institutions and citizens in raising the level of vaccination and protecting children from measles.
The institute stressed that vaccinating children contributes to preventing the spread of the disease and protecting the community.
