Niš resident arrested over threats against retired general Vladimir Lazarević
Niš police arrested today M.M. (59) from this city on suspicion of posting comments with threatening content on social media directed at retired general Vladimir Lazarević, as Danas reports. The suspect was placed in detention for up to 48 hours, after which he will be sent to the competent prosecution with criminal charges.
The operation was carried out on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, the Special Department for combating high-tech crime. M.M. posted the comments yesterday, September 25, committing the criminal offense of «endangering security».
The exact content of the comments is not known. Nor is it known whether they are related to the public appearance of General Lazarević, commander of the Priština Corps of the Yugoslav Army during the 1999 Kosovo war and convicted by The Hague, at the «public tribune» held on September 24 at King Aleksandar Square in Niš.
On that occasion he spoke about his war experience, Serbian victims and patriotism, and called on citizens to vote on October 25 in the parliamentary elections for the ruling list «United Serbia», because «that is how Serbia is defended».
The tribune was held in parallel with the rally in front of the nearby National Theater, where students and citizens welcomed the cyclists of the «Guardians of the Constitution» action who pedaled across Serbia. Lazarević held two more such tribunes during September — in Niš and in Svrljig.
