North Macedonian seriously injured in knife brawl in Germany
A verbal dispute between two groups near the town square of Bad Segeberg escalated early Saturday morning into a mass brawl on Kirchstraße, during which a 23-year-old resident of Bad Segeberg with German citizenship stabbed a 24-year-old North Macedonian citizen, as Žurnal reports.
The incident happened at around 4:20 a.m. on September 26. Besides the Macedonian, who was seriously injured, a 23-year-old Iraqi national was also hurt in the brawl. First aid at the scene was given by passers-by and emergency crews, while German police used a tourniquet to stop the victim’s bleeding.
The Macedonian national was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery the same morning. His wounds were initially assessed as life-threatening, but doctors later confirmed his life was out of danger, Žurnal reports.
After the incident, three men — including the main suspect — drove away from the scene but were later located at a local clinic and temporarily arrested: the 23-year-old attacker and two German nationals aged 22 and 23, who had sustained minor injuries. By order of the Kiel prosecution, police took blood samples from five participants in the brawl, who were then released to defend themselves in freedom.
The criminal police of Bad Segeberg are leading the investigation into the case and have called on all potential witnesses to come forward to help fully clarify the incident.
