“Not in my name”: Albanians protest in Germany and Finland
Many Albanians gathered tonight in Ulm, Germany, to protest the Kosovo Specialist Chambers’ verdict in The Hague against former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
The diaspora protest was organized in opposition to the sentencing of former president Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Participants voiced their demand for justice and opposed the combined 81-year prison sentences handed down to the four former KLA leaders.
Similar protests have taken place in other European cities. The “Liria ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name) platform announced that protests were also held in Hamburg, Germany, and in Helsinki, Finland, drawing large numbers of expatriates.
Meanwhile, a protest is also expected tonight in Pristina, where citizens are due to gather from 21:00 at “Skënderbeu” square for the 11th consecutive night, under the motto “Not in my name”.
On September 16, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers sentenced Hashim Thaçi and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison each in the first instance, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years.
