Over 10,000 Diaspora Serbs Registered to Vote in Just 3 Days — Deadline Closes on October 3
The deadline closes on October 3, while official figures for voters abroad are still missing
Less than a month before the early parliamentary elections of October 25, the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) has still not published official figures for diaspora voters, as Nova.rs reports. However, data circulating shows a rapid increase in registrations to vote abroad.
Ognjen Rašuo, a member of the Commission for the Revision of the Electoral Register from the Green-Left Front, told Nova.rs that by yesterday 55,000 registration decisions for voting abroad had been submitted — with over 10,000 new registrations in just the last 3 days.
Meanwhile, Marko Dimić from the SSP published on September 27 that by September 25, 44,141 voters had been registered in 61 countries, according to Nova.rs. The figures confirm the high interest of Serbs abroad in the early elections.
The opposition accuses the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the embassies of making the process difficult. Srbija Centar says the Foreign Ministry has asked diplomatic missions not to officially report the number of those registered, while “Students in Blockade” published the list of countries where requests remain unprocessed.
The registration deadline closes on October 3. As Nova.rs writes, polling places abroad are determined by the RIK on the proposal of the Foreign Ministry, usually where there are at least 100 interested voters.
