Pacolli says he won the defamation and insult lawsuit against Peci
Businessman Behgjet Pacolli has said that the Basic Court in Pristina upheld his lawsuit against Faton Peci — a former minister and now mayor of Mitrovica — for defamation and insult, as Sinjali reports. According to Pacolli, the decision concerns statements Peci had made about him on social media and in several television shows during November 2024.
The court, according to Pacolli’s announcement, ordered Peci to compensate the non-material damage caused by those statements.
“For me, this case has not been and is not a matter of money. It is a matter of truth, dignity and responsibility for one’s public words,” Pacolli declared. He added that criticism is welcome in public life, but defamation is something entirely different, and that no one should abuse the public space to damage the reputation of others.
The background to the dispute, as Lajmet e Reja writes, goes back to 2025, when Pacolli denounced Peci’s statements, in which Peci had warned that a “witness” would supposedly appear to accuse him of “murdering heroes” — a witness who, according to Pacolli, never appeared.
