Parliament to vote on October 8: SP does not back down from the territorial division with 46 municipalities, DP warns the electoral reform is also at risk
The Socialist Party does not give up on dividing the territory into 46 municipalities, announcing that it will be approved in principle and article by article on Monday, and on October 8 in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Democrats gave the first signal of breaking the political dialogue on the electoral reform as well.
“This is approved on October 8… go to the Constitutional Court”, Ulsi Manja declared.
After this statement by the chairman of the Laws Committee, every debate by the MPs would be mere procedure, because Ulsi Manja made it clear that neither the opposition’s objections, nor those of the municipal councils, mayors or citizens’ protests would make the SP withdraw from the project to divide the territory into 46 municipalities.
The Democrats insisted, but without success in stopping the majority; the Socialist who chairs the Laws Committee even found time to joke about the merging of 15 municipalities.
The Socialist initiator Arbjan Mazniku presented the results of the consultations and the municipalities’ decisions, while challenging the opposition to name one service that is being taken away from citizens.
For political diversion, the majority also brought in the quarrel inside the DP, raising suspicions that Berisha left the right-wing municipalities in the lurch by not making the proposal at the same time as the SP, as A2 reports.
By Monday, at the Laws Committee, when the SP draft on the territorial map is expected to be approved in principle and article by article, Mazniku must provide the Laws MPs with all the consultation documents. Then, at the October 8 session, at least 84 green cards (votes) must be secured.
